The Best Khao Soi In Chiang Mai

Tasty Khao Soi Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is a wonderful city for digital nomads to dwell in for an extended period of time and a wonderful place for tourists to visit. With the large number of temples, coffee shops and food options, you will not be bored easily! Chiang Mai is full of helpful and friendly locals that are always willing to help out too making this city a truly wonderful place for everyone. But now lets get on with the best dish in Chiang Mai! My personal favorite of the unique northern Thailand foods is Khao Soi! Not just any old Khao Soi though… but the delicious Chiang Mai Khao Soi.

What is Khao Soi?

Khao Soi is a a creamy coconut curry soup with a chicken drumstick submerged inside. It’s served with some crispy yellow curly straws and some chives or cilantro on top! This flavor of coconut curry soup by itself even is absolutely delicious. The chicken drumstick really puts the cherry on top though and makes this a savory dish to die for. The first 3 days that I was in Chiang Mai I ate Khao Soi 3 days in a row.. I simply love this dish.

Best Khao Soi Restaurant in Chang Mai

Chang Mai has many amazing Khao Soi restaurants all around the city and surrounding neighborhoods. It’s not easy to narrow down the best place to eat this food at as it tastes very similar when served at a sit down restaurant as it does buying from a street vendor. Between the different places offering this amazing dish, there do exist different levels of creaminess and level of tenderness for the chicken, which brings me to my favorite restaurant. I went to this restaurant 3 days in a row and even rode my motorcycle through a rainstorm to get to. My favorite restaurant to eat Khao Soi at in Chiang Mai is Jok Sompet.

Jok Sompet is the restaurant that makes me feel nostalgic about Khao Soi now, but not only due to nostalgia do I choose this restaurant as my favorite. This Khao Soi is the creamiest and most flavorful out of the multitude of Khao Soi restaurants and stalls I have eaten at now. The chicken drumstick is tender and falls off the bone. As of summer 2020, the price of the Khao Soi is 60baht($1.90USD) and well worth it!

Don’t Splash The Khao Soi On Yourself Like Me!

Do be careful though because the first time I tried to tear off a stubborn small piece of chicken off the bone. It fell back into the bowl and the creamy coconut Khao Soi splashed all over my shirt. It was a little bit embarrassing to tell the truth…

Location Of Jok Sompet

The image above shows that the restaurant is located on the northern part of the square. There is parking for motorcycles and a few cars out front as well. The staff are friendly and attentive and there seem to be about 5 or 6 staff working at all times.
